Message #331 "Instructions For Corporate Prayer" - 1 Timothy 2:1-7 Sunday, July 8 2018 Guest Teacher Jesse Wallace of The City Gates Church http://thecitygateschurch.com This book has a lot to say to any person in ministry or aspiring to be in ministry. It's also an invaluable resource to those already serving in a leadership capacity in the local church. Paul's practical advice can help a church or minister to stay on course and fulfill the calling that God has on their lives but it can also help someone who has veered off course to return to what a New Testament church can be. Paul in Chapter 2 is giving instruction to Timothy on how they are to pray in the service as they gather corporately to worship. Paul in 1 Tim. 2:1 tells Timothy to first of all pray for all men. In 1 Tim. 2:2 Paul says more specifically for men in authority. In 1 Tim. 2:3-4 Paul gives us the goal of praying for all men and those in authority, that they would be saved. Lastly in 1 Tim. 2:5-7 Paul tells us how they must be saved, through the Man Christ Jesus our one mediator with God. Calvary Chapel Reston Station 1950 Isaac Newton Sq. Message #329 John 15:1-11, "Dressed For Success" Sunday, June 24 2018 Pastor Bill Jasan (Stone of Help Haiti, http://stoneofhelpministry.org) shared with us today on a classic passage regarding discipleship. Dig into this teaching and discover how by abiding in Jesus, God (1) teaches us to desire what he desires in prayer, (2) enables us to live fruitful lives that glorify Him, (3) assures us of His love, (4) and fills us with His joy. James 1:22 encouragement- In His illustration, Jesus compares us abiding in Him to a branch of a grapevine remaining attached to the vine. The purpose? For the branch to receive life from the vine in order to bear fruit. Pray and ask God to show you areas of your life where you see God producing the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) and using you in ways that bring glory to Jesus. As God shows you what He sees, give Him thanks and ask Him to prune those fruitful areas of anything that would inhibit God from producing more fruit. Are there areas that currently don't appear to be fruitful? Ask God to reveal what His will is for that area of your life. It may be to remove sources of temptation and sin, and replace them with godly things or pursuits. It may something that in and of itself isn't sinful, but is slowing down your growth in Christ. Ask God for wisdom in how this may be enjoyed or done in a way that glorifies Him, while not distracting you from God or inhibiting your pursuit of Him. Message #323 Mother's Day 2018, "All These Things In Her Heart" Sunday, May 13th 2018 Throughout the Scriptures, God expresses His grace to and through mothers in ways that glorify Him, show us His character, and instruct us in His ways. This teaching will focus on two such mothers: Rahab and Mary. Rahab - introduced to her in Joshua 2:1-21. She fits perfectly the description of a Gentile given in Ephesians 2:12. Though she did not know much, when the word of God came to her she believed God and acted on His word (Isaiah 66:2; Romans 10:17; Hebrews 11:30-31; James 2:20-26). She had greater faith in God's word than the twelve spies of Numbers 13, and a model of John 20:29. Mary - was of the line of David (Luke 3). Her heart was full of the Scriptures (Luke 1:46-55). A virgin (Luke 1:26-38), who acknowledged God as her Savior (Luke 1:47). Message #319 "Growing Strong Through Suffering" - 1 Peter 5:6-14 Sunday, April 15 2018 Jesus told Simon Peter (in Luke 22:31-32) that though he was about to be "sifted like wheat," Jesus had prayed for him, "that your faith may not fail." Jesus added, "And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers." Jesus knew that in God's strength, we not only can endure, but we can grow strong and come through our suffering better equipped to strengthen our brothers. Some thirty years later, Simon- then known as Peter- wrote a letter to scattered believers suffering more and more persecution. He did not have to persuade them that persecution might come, because they already were experiencing it. We sometimes need to be reminded that we can expect suffering during our lifetime. (Acts 14:22.) Wanting the believers to be equipped to live victoriously despite their suffering, Peter gave them a series of reminders on how they (and we) can grow stronger in the midst of suffering. In short, Peter was doing just what Jesus had predicted about Peter more than three decades earlier: strengthening his brothers. In this message, we looked at the ways we can grow strong during times of suffering and trials, as seen in Peter's letter to the scattered Christians, in 1 Peter 5:6-14.
