Message #375, Matthew 3:1-17, “The Forerunner and the Father” Sunday, May 26, 2019 In this study we jump into Matthew chapter 3, which comes roughly thirty years after the end of Matthew chapter 2. Matthew introduces us to John the Baptist, who God the Father introduces to the Son of God. Our sermon questions are: What was the message and the mission of John the Baptist? What is the significance of Jesus' baptism? Special thanks and acknowledgment to Pastor Jon Courson and his Application Commentary on the New Testament (Volume 3) that provided the four points which were used to answer the second sermon question! Message #374, Matthew 2:13-23, “Choosing Nazareth” Sunday, May 19, 2019 As we conclude Matthew 2 we follow Jesus, Joseph, and Mary being led in God's will and the fulfillment of messianic prophecies through divine and circumstantial ways. Our sermon questions are: What can we learn from the humility of Jesus through the events here in Matthew 2? And why is it critical I grow in my knowledge of God and my relationship with God as I follow His will? Message #373, Matthew 2:1-12, “Jesus: Threat, Fact, or King?” Sunday, May 12, 2019 We continue our study of Matthew, and here in chapter two we observe three different reactions to Jesus’ incarnation/birth. They range from the suspicion of Herod the Great, to the indifference of the chief priests and scribes, to the reverence and worship of the wise men from the east. Our sermon questions are: Is my relationship with Jesus based on perception or reality? What lessons can I learn by considering the actions of the wise men in Matthew 2? Message #372, Matthew 1:18-25, "When We Wrestle with God's Will" Sunday, May 5, 2019, We conclude our study in Matthew chapter 1 with Joseph's perspective of Jesus' incarnation through the Virgin Birth. We'll learn from Joseph's example how to face circumstances outside our control in our pursuit of God's will. Our two sermon questions are: How does God encourage me when His will appears unclear or hard to understand? (Matthew 1:18-23) What does the Lord teach me as He helps me to obey His word? Message #371, Matthew 1:1-17, "Meet the Kingdom of Heaven's King" Sunday, April 28, 2019, We're beginning a new study in the Gospel of Matthew! The theme of Matthew's Gospel is the presentation of Jesus as the one who fulfilled the Old Testament prophecies concerning the Messiah. In today's sermon we'll focus on two questions: Why does Jesus' genealogy matter? What does this genealogy teach me about Jesus? Message #370, Philippians 3:8-10, "The Power of His Resurrection" Sunday, April 21, 2019, Happy Resurrection Sunday! This Easter Sunday message is focused on answering two questions about the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Why does the resurrection of Jesus matter? What are the results of Jesus' resurrection? A) It matters because Jesus commanded it to be a central part of the gospel message. B) His resurrection is essential to the experience of our new life as new creations in Christ. C) Belief in the resurrection of Christ is pivotal to our salvation from sin, Hell, and death unto forgiveness, Heaven, and eternal life. D) Jesus' resurrection is part of the highest ambition any believer can pursue. In it's pursuit, the true believer will sacrifice anything to attain it. E)The significance of Christ's resurrection results in my desire to know Him more! Message #369, Acts 28:17-31, "Until The Lord Comes" Part II Sunday, April 14, 2019, Our study of the Acts concludes by examining God's work in developing Christ-like character in the Apostle Paul over thirty plus years. You're invited to consider with us how God accomplished this through opposition, trials, and suffering. Learn how Paul preached the hope of Israel from the Old Testament Scriptures, as seen in Paul's Letter to the Romans. And see how God used the difficult circumstances as an opportunity to declare the Gospel. Our primary study question is: Does God measure success by metrics or by character? (Acts 28:17-31) Related verses: Acts chapter 9, and chapters 13-27 2 Corinthians 11:23-28 John 1:11 Romans 9:1-3; 10:1-3; 11:1, 11, 25 Matthew 5:43-45 Romans 5:8-10 Acts 23:6; 24:15; 26:6-8 Daniel 12:2 Job 19:25-27 Matthew 22:31-32 Acts 26:22-23 1 Corinthians 4:2 Rom 3:10-20; 5:6-8; 10:9-10 Philippians 1:12-14; 4:22 Calvary Chapel Reston Station 1950 Isaac Newton Sq. Message #368, Acts 28:1-16, "Until The Lord Comes" Part I Sunday, April 7, 2019, As we begin the final chapter of the Acts of the Apostles, we observe God's fulfillment of His promise to the Apostle Paul to bring him to Rome (Acts 23:11). Paul's journey was full of obstacles, adversity, and delays. And yet throughout the unfolding of God's will, we see opportunity for both trust and discouragment. The first question we will address is: How does an accurate knowledge of God teach us to understand our circumstances? (Acts 28:1-16) Next Sunday, we will answer the question of does God measure success by metrics or by character? (Acts 28:17-31) *Earlier in the message (around 5:14 in the recording), Pastor Sean mentions Jesus being born. This is to be understood within the biblical context of Isaiah 9:6 and John 1:1-14. These passages acknowledge the eternal Son of God, who always existed, and through the miracle of the incarnation and the virgin birth, took on flesh. Message #366, Mark 5:21-43, "At the Crossroads of Faith and Suffering" Sunday, March 24, 2019, Pastor Bill Jasan (stoneofhelpministry.org) teaches from Mark 5:21-43 to address the topic of faith and human suffering. God's ways of respnding to our needs can be difficult to receive at times. Can I trust the character of God when I am suffering? Will Jesus respond even when my faith is full of weakness? Study the Scriptures with us to learn God's answers to these questions and more. Related verse: Isaiah 30:18 Calvary Chapel Reston Station 1950 Isaac Newton Sq.
